  • Rubber manufacturing conglomerate formed in 1892 from Samuel Colt’s merger of earlier companies; later became Uniroyal, and then acquired by Michelin. When workers objected to upgrading of black workers at Detroit plant in 1943, Rubber Workers Union president came and informed union local it had to observe rights of upgraded black workers. WPB also agreed to check on company’s employment situa- tion in W.Va. during inspection tour there in 1943.
