Oil company founded in 1933 when Saudi Arabia granted oil concession to California Arabian Standard Oil Company (CASOC), affiliate of Standard Oil of California (later Chevron). Texas Company (later Texaco) acquired 50 percent ownership in 1936, and other oil firms also later became owners. Name changed to Arabian American Oil Company in 1944. FEPC received complaints regarding refusal to hire African Americans or Jews for overseas positions in Arabia; but it was determined that the Fair Employment Practice Committee (FEPC) had no jurisdiction over these jobs. Case led to FEPC queries regarding Arabian employment policies. Ownership later acquired by Saudi Arabian government and name changed to Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco).
