Aluminum firm in many locations with defense contracts for producing high-strength aluminum sheeting, tubing, and other metal products. The Fair Employment Practice Committee (FEPC) successfully negotiated with firm in Bridgeport, Connecticut, in 1943 over in-plant segregation, opportunities for African Americans for upgrading and admission to training programs, and employment of black women on same terms as white women. There were also FEPC complaints against plant in Vernon, California, regarding failure to hire African Americans there because of housing shortage and other complaints regarding failure to utilize available black workers in its Southern plants.
